Who can get access to hospice care? |
| Anyone that meets diagnostic criteria for a defined life expectancy and is no longer able or does not wish to receive aggressive, curative treatment qualifies for hospice care. |

How can I access hospice care? |
| Accessing hospice care is usually accomplished by having our counselor come to you to meet with the patient and/or family to learn about the medical treatment and current goals. |

Who pays for hospice? |
| Hospice is covered by all insurance companies and usually at 100%. |

What if I have no insurance at all? |
| In California, admission to a hospice program will facilitate access to emergency Medi-Cal. Patients in other states would have to check their state's regulations. |

How long can a patient be on hospice? |
| As long as the patient continues to meet the criteria, they can continue to access the medical care and all other services. |

Can I keep my own doctor? |
| Your primary care physician can continue to monitor your care and provide guidance to the hospice team. Some physicians may choose to
follow your care as a consultant along with Bella Vida’s physician providing ongoing care management. |

Do I lose my Medicare benefits?

| No! This is the most common misunderstanding about the hospice benefit. Your Medicare benefit is unchanged as the hospice care is merely one portion of that benefit. The Medicare benefit is still in place to cover hospitalizations, surgery, and doctor visits that are not related to the diagnosis that made the patient eligible for the hospice program. |

Do I have to discuss the program with my MD first? |
| Any patient can receive an evaluation for services and an explanation of those services with or without a physician's order. |

Are there common myths about Hospice care?

| All too often we hear myths and misconceptions about what hospice care is and isn’t. The most common myths and misconceptions are concerning who can and cannot receive care, how long they can receive care, and the patient’s ability to choose their treatment. Getting the straight answers from an expert in hospice is always the best answer. We will be happy to provide you with the answers to all your questions in person or on the phone. |
